Hi Michael. Wouldn't the colors be wool bunting, the border being cotton or wool bunting, the stars and fimbration being "polished" cotton, with the hoist edge being cotton canvas? That it is what I have gathered over the years. Which would explain the difference in colors of the white material. I guess I just threw myself in front of the firing line.
