I found no one named "Maynard Davenport" in the
Confederate Compiled Service Records.
Davenport (whoever he may be) appears to not be
a member of the 30th Virginia Inf.
The date of this letter and the sender are interesting.
How would a female in Richmond on Oct. 10, 1862,
only 3 weeks after the battle of Sharpsburg, know that
a pow had retained his flag while in prison??
There is no record for a Maynard Davenport in any of
the Confederate Service Records!
I think the editor of this book may be at fault.
