Philip,

I know the flag at the MOC and have seen it before up close. I do NOT think this was ever carried in battle at all - rather it is a parade or ceremonial flag for the 1st/3rd Florida.

Todd references the CWPT site with unit colors - please be advised that there are numerous errors with regards to the flags shown. A number of them were issued after the battle -these are the flags with the battle honor for the battle in question. Flags with battle honors that served i the actual battle are exceedingly rare.

The 1st/3rd Florida probably carried an Augusta Depot battle flag (rectangular with 13 stars and no colored border) at Shy's Hill. If it is like the other surviving flags for this brigade, the unit designation was sewn in white cotton letters to the obverse side only with the numbers in the top quadrant and the state in the lower.
