The Cincinnati Commercial is one of the very best Union newspapers for battle accounts during the war. They imbedded reporters in Union commands large and small during the war and their reporting is often much better than officer accounts in the Official Records!

Most good newspapers had imbedded reporters during the war - many others could not afford them and just reprinted their accounts from the main source paper.
