As part of research into history of Bagdad, the Bagdad Waterfronts Partnership is preparing park exhibit panels for the opening of the Bagdad Mill Site Park in 2016. In our study of Civil War history of Bagdad includes the subject of brothers William and John Rogers. William was a member of the Simpson Mounted Rangers from its organization in 1861 until his death at Ship Island Mississippi in March 1865. He may have been a native of Milton. His photograph is seen in several publications about uniforms during the war. As reported in Mr. Martin's essay, SMR sabres and scabbards were manufactured at d Bagdad. This likely could have occurred in the blacksmith's area of Bagdad Mill owned by E.E.Simpson. We are very interesed in details about the lives of the Rogers brothers. The Florida State Archives provides resources in the form of photocopies of twelve letters written by William D. Rogers during the civil war, 1862-1865. The letters provide information on camp life and military operations. "Rogers describes the retreat from Corinth, Mississippi following the Battle of Shiloh (April 1862); and the participation of the First Florida in the Battle of Murfreesboro, Tennessee (December 1862 - January 1863)." Photographs of brothers William David Rogers and John Franklin Rogers can be located online at www.floridamemory.com. Any information about the Rogers family and decendants as well as any additional details as to E.E.Simpson and his role and positions during the war would be very appreciated.
