Re: 1st Georgia Reserves (Fannin's)

Thanks for your work on this unit. A year or so ago I came across parts of a letter written by Col. Fannin after the war in which he mentions being at Fort Tyler when it was captured on April 16, 1865. I would guess there were other members of the 1st Georgia Reserves there as well:

The individual that requested my help was trying to learn something of her ancestor's service. He was wounded in the fighting at Coosawhatchee SC in early December 1864, one the few Confederate victories from the late war period. Gen. G. W. Smith helped get the Georgia Reserves in position to help defeat the invaders, since Reserves were not expected to serve outside state boundaries. Charleston SC newspapers carried a couple of reports of that battle.
