Re: Floyd Legion
In Response To: Re: Floyd Legion ()

I have J. R. Cowan whose residence is not listed. Enlisted as a private (date unknown) He also had service in "F" Company, Alabama 4th Calvary. As you are probably aware the State of Alabama adjoins Floyd County, Georgia and this individual could well have enlisted into a Alabama unit.

I have a R. A. Cowan whose residence is listed as Floyd County, Georgia. He enlisted on March 10, 1862 as a private into "C" Company, Georgia 40th Infantry. He was discharged for a disability on March 5, 1863 at Rome, Georgia. (Nature of disability not indicated)

The 40th Ga. Infantry Unit was organized on March 19, 1862 and mustered out April 9, 1865. The unit's assignments are shown as follows:

All of the above information is (c) Historical Data Systems, Inc. @www.civilwardata.

If you would indicate the names and units of the two brothers who served in Tenn. I would attempt to find more detailed information than that shown in your post.

I would suggest that you obtain the Combined Service Records of these men from the Archives. The information contained in these archive records sometimes indicate quite a bit of detailed information. In some instances there is practically no data. There are also some commerical locations that can supply copies of information contained in the CSR. The fees are practically equal but the service and the copies are much better when obtained from a commerical source.

Hope this is of assistance...Sorry I don't have more data.
