Some forty years ago, while exploring Cobb and Paulding Counties, I saw a State of Georgia Historical Marker that described a mass grave of Confederate soldiers killed at New Hope. The marker was located on a road adjacent to an elementary school and, from the location described, the mass grave was in what was then the school play yard. There was no indication that the dead were ever reburied properly. Union graves and registration units would not have been interested. I do not believe that the marker is still in place. There is a State of Georgia agency that has the location and legends of all historical markers, however I do not know the current name of the agency.
