Flag of the 34th GA

We have a color photo of the flag of the 34th Ga. Vol. Inf. which is in a museum in Chicago. The flag is very large - presumably a garrison flag rather than one carried in battle. It is in very good condition - no battle damage. I figured it was kept cased and captured at Vicksburg.

The flag is unusual. It is in the form of the "Stars and Bars", but the colors are very much in doubt. It appears to have been hung in sunlight and is severely bleached. It appears to be all in shades of white and beige, but I figure the original colors are gone.

I thought that the original colors were probably a blue canton in the top left, and the bars being the usual red-white-red. The stars in the canton are formed into a wreath of flowers, hand embroidered. There are also two hands (or gloves) inside the wreath. One points up, the other down. There is also a palmetto tree - the usual symbol of secession.

Has anyone else seen this flag, and can you comment on the colors and the symbolism of the unusual embroidery? Some re-enactors who represent Co. B. of the 34th saw this flag and thought it was mostly white. I think the fact that the flag is sewn together horizontally in thirds is too coincidental not to assume that the flag was made in the national pattern.

Any thoughts or information on this flag is appreciated. Are there any battle flags of the 34th still existing out there?
