Re: 53rd Infantry Regiment Co E

Jim
This 53rd Infantry that my James belonged to was based out of Georgia

You might try and go to this address and look at the regimental histories http://www.itd.nps.gov/cwss/index.html
you can do a search by history of the actual units and then look through the names you might even find the KB somewhere
It is a long process to look at the names because you have to go page by page in alphabetical order and since this last name apparently starts with a B it might not take as long
YOu can even put Tennessee in there as well and do the units from that state search or you can put in the numbers 53

This is a great site for Civil War History of Units as well as some of the men who served
Good luck!!!!!!!

These were the only confederate units listed with the number 53

1
53rd Regiment, Alabama Infantry
Confederate
Alabama
2
53rd Regiment, Alabama Partisan Rangers
Confederate
Alabama
3
53rd Regiment, Georgia Infantry
Confederate
Georgia
no one is this unit had a last name that starts with B with a K initial or first name
4
53rd Regiment, Missouri Cavalry
Confederate
Missouri
5
53rd Regiment, Missouri Infantry
Confederate
Missouri
6
53rd Regiment, North Carolina Infantry
Confederate
North Carolina
No one in this unit had a last name starting with B with a K initial
7
53rd Regiment, Tennessee Infantry
Confederate
Tennesee
these are the only 2 in this unit i could find with a initial K at all with the last name starting with a B
Brackeen, Jose K. A Private Private
Bugg, James K.P. A Private Private
Unfortuantly they did not have a unit history available you might try writing the Tennesse Archives to see what they can tell you sometimes they are very helpful
This site does have a history of the 53rd Infantry Regiment Tenessee http://www.tngenweb.org/civilwar/csainf/csa53.html
8
53rd Regiment, Virginia Infantry
Confederate
Virginia
9
53rd Regiment, Virginia Militia
Confederate
Virginia

I did not check the other units but this does not mean that they arent there somewhere. First I would start with where I purchased the musket and maybe put a add in the paper to see who might have put it up for sale if you really want to know the name of the soldier who might have actually carried it

I was just recently reading a newspaper article where a firefighter in Gaston Co NC found a WW 1 letter in a house they were using as a place to burn down and use as a practice house and this firefighter went so far as to put a add in the paper looking for the person the letter was written to and ended up giving that letter to the mans granddaughter after all these years so it can be done with the effort to do it.

Hope this has been of some help at least!
You might also try and go to www.genforum.com and look for the 2 surnames above and see if anyone is researching these 2 men they may even know about the musket and have been looking for it we are in the process of trying to find a sword that was purchased from one of our ancestors so it can be a long tedious effort and may or maynot result in a answer
