Nothing in the Official Records whatsoever. What Union troops were involved, and where were they based? Considering that countless fertile and productive farms existed in the unprotected heartland of Georgia just south and east of Atlanta, it's hard to imagine why a Federal expedition would travel so far in search of supplies in this isolated area.

Since there are no reports, I'd have to guess that the attackers were local tories and deserters. Bands of these outlaws roamed the hill country and lived from day to day by raiding isolated farms, taking what they wanted in the way of stock and supplies. They disappeared whenever a real military command from either side appraoched. Sometimes these groups became bold enough to attempt a raid small towns and communities, just as you described.

This is a largely undocumented area of the war, since the fighting involved Southerner vs. Southerner and had little to so with familiar battles and leaders.
