Re: colquitt's scouts
In Response To: colquitt's scouts ()

Could you tell me your source for their nickname? I have a little on Jack Colquitt, by I am more interested in his nemisis to the north, John Gatewood. Anyway, my folder on Colquitt is on loan at the moment, but he and most of his men were deserters from the 8th and 11th Texas Cavalries, Colquitt was from the 11th. They had been either in the hospital or camped around Rome in the late summer of 1863, then deserting and forming their gang. As a rule they opperated below the Coosa River.
