Mr. Pitts,

Wheeler's Cavalry at not time during the war showed much discipline. I have done considerable research on Wheeler during the Chickamauga and Chattanooga Campaigns and I can tell you that having a grasp on his job as the Chief of Cavalry for the Army of Tennessee was not his strong point. He would have been a challenge in individual combat but doing his Cavalry mission of providing reconnaissance, security, early warning, focusing on the enemy's main body, etc., etc., etc. one would not want to turn to Joe Wheeler.
