"His home was in Georgia. If this is true, then he did not serve in the 4th GA, as the 4th was part of the Army of Northern Virginia and surrendered at Appomattox in May of 1865. But I'm not giving up. Thanks for responding."

Jimmy,

The 4th Georgia was a state unit that fought in the Army of Northern Virginia. There were 3 large Confederate Armies, and each army had troops from various states. The Army of Northern Virginia (ANV) had a number of Georgia units, including the 4th Georgia. The 4th Georgia was part of the famous Cook -Doles Brigade. Among its many battles included Gettysburg. There is a great book written in 1902 about the brigade titled, "History of the Doles-Cook Brigade" which has a good deal of information about the 4th.
