Kenneth --

According to the service file, was Kent Hospital under Federal or Confederate management? General Hospital #5 in Richmond VA was also called Kent Hospital, but it closed towards the end of 1862. Are you sure Kent is the right name?

Since this man's name appears on a record of men who willingly came into Federal lines and took the path of allegiance to the United States, it would be safe to describe him as a deserter.

As a deserter, this man would not be eligible for state pension benefits, but I would ask before assuming that his records prevents you from becoming an SCV member. Besides, you probably have other Confederate ancestors.
