first Georgia Cavalry

While transcribing my great great grandfather's civil war letters, I found a reference to R.P. (B.P.?) Duncan who was hanged for unknown reasons on about July 6, 1864 near the Chattahoochee River, just north of Atlanta. He was hung "with a piece of bark" which I assume had his name on it as well at 1st Geo. Cav. My ancestor speculates that he either committed suicide or was hung by the rebels for giving the union forces information.

Does anyone have any information on Mr. R.P. (B.P.?) Duncan?

I checked the rosters of all 4 of the Georgia Cavalry units that had "First" in their names and found 3 Duncans (G.W., J.S. Matt H.) in the 1st Regiment of the Georgia Cavalry and a J.M. Duncan in the 1st Battallion Georgia Reserve Cavalry. Is it likely that these soldiers' records would have enough information to solve the puzzle?

Are there any sources for Civil War traitors?

Thank you for your help.
