If you can find it, They Died by Twos and Tens by Kenneth Hafendorfer covers Confederate cavalry operations day by day during the summer and fall of 1862. The author has a particular interest in the Kentucky Campaign. It's hard to locate, and I probably paid more for that book than any other publication purchased during the past ten years. You might be able to get it through interlibrary loan.
