If I'm not mistaken, the VA will want proof of Confederate military service. If Prescott was only in the militia, you probably won't find a Confederate service file for him. After the war state pension boards made a distinction between those who enlisted in Confederate military service, and those who were only in the militia. VA regulation probably run along the same lines.

Perhaps the State of Georgia will provide a marker.
