Re: Catoosa Springs Confederate hospital.

Mr Hobgood - Thank you for the clarifications. I did not refer to a map when trying to describe the location... just went by "feel". My wife and I own land just to the east of the site on Keith Road and we are by there often. You are also correct in stating that federals did not occupy the site until late 1863, after Missionary Ridge, as Bragg/Johnston pulled back into Dalton.

As to the facilities... in conversation with the current owners and in researching some of the related documents thay made available, I believe the structures that Cummings referred to were the main lodge and support buildings for the resort that had been in business for decades prior and were apparently very well known and popular.

Within the site are still 6 - 8 mineral springs still flowing clear but colorful mineral-tinted waters and the grounds around the springs are well kept, good stand of grass under huge old hardwoods, and used to graze cattle. It's really a pretty site when the sun shines on it through the trees reflecting the different colors off the springs.

There are some old white washed structures still in the back of the property but the owners state none are contemtorary to the war or the original resort.
