Thank you for your response about my gg grandfather, John W. Smith I have seen several rosters including yours and the one in Mr. Fox's book (a very informative book). A Couple of them show that he was awol on 28 February 1865 but several others show him absent that day WITH leave. I have read that some of the soldiers were fuloughed to Georgia but could not make their way back to Petersburg because of Sherman's march to the sea. I have been having trouble tracing his family since he left Ga. I believe his parents were Josey & Matilda Smith of Campbelton but is very hard to confirm. Thanks again for help.
