JoEllen,

GDAH has put only a small portion of pension records on the web. Most are available on microfilm, but you would have to visit to view them. Some libraries have selected microfilms. For example, the Sara Hightower Regional Library in Rome, Ga., has pension records for Floyd County and some adjacent counties, which may include Gordon.

Finding newspaper accounts typically works the same way. Libraries have microfilms of newspapers that you can crank through and look at the pages. I haven't seen a lot of indexes, so you would probably have to move to an approximate date and look around.

The account of 2nd Manassas was from the Offical Records. That is a large set of books (also may be available on CD and online) that can also be found in libraries.
