Lawton's Brigade, in piecemeal, arrived in Virginia the first two weeks of June 1862. Its first battle was on June 27th. The 31st & 38th separated from the brigade and is credited with fighting at Cold Harbor. The remaining four regiments : 13th, 26th 60th & 61st GA regiments were at nearby Gaines Mill.
