There are lots of missing records as you can see. If we take it one step further, the regimental record of events includes the following --

3rd Confederate Cavalry
Record of Events for September 1862, Camp Maxey near Albany Ky.

Co. “A”, Capt. Corn stationed at Stevenson Ala., scouting Nashville & Chattanooga R.R.
Co. “B”, Capt. Lynch [stationed at] Taylor’s Store Ala. near Gen. Maxey’s Hdqrs.
Co. “C”, Capt. Lankford [stationed at] Stevenson Ala., scouting Memphis & Charleston R.R.
Co. “D”, Capt. McCaskill, scouting in the vicinity of Huntsville & Athens, Ala.
Co. “E”, Capt. Pope [stationed at] Taylor’s Store Ala. near Gen. Maxey’s Hdqrs.
Co. “F”, Capt. Oates stationed at Stevenson Ala., scouting Nashville & Chattanooga R.R.
Co. “G”, Capt. Rice [stationed at] Graham’s Store [Ala.]. Was the only cavalry in the engagements at Bridgeport and Stevenson, Ala., both of which engagements Gen. Bragg complimented them for their bravery & good service. Since that time they have been stationed as couriers at Gen. Maxey’s Hdqrs.
Co. “H”, Capt. Sandusky, stationed at Stevenson & Bolivar, Ala.
Co. “I”, Capt. Reece, guarding corn and North Creek bridges the Memphis & Charleston R.R.
Co. “K”, Capt. Clayton, new Co. stationed at Taylor’s Store [Ala.]; unarmed, drilling and preparing for active service.

Sept. 7 – Received orders to raid into Sequatchie Valley, four cos. to scout the country & watch the movements of the enemy & act as couriers between Gen. Bragg’s Hdqrs. & Chattanooga. Sent Co “A” & “F” to Dunlap, Cos. “B” & “I” to Pikeville for said duty.

Sept. 22 – Received orders to proceed with my whole command & transportation to Jamestown, Fentress Co., or nearest point where forage could be procured & pass by way of the Valley to take the four Cos. with me. Took up line of march which is some two hundred miles, arrived at the forks of Wolf (?) River near the Ky. line on the 27th, 10 A.M. Found no subsistence and moved camp to this point, Albany Ky., awaiting the balance of the brigade under Gen. Maxey, which is hourly expected. This border is infested with armed bands of marauders (tories) which we are actively engaged in teaching a good Southern lesson. The whole regiment have been doing good service and for some months outpost duty.
