Re: Sgt. Alfred L. Robertson, 12th Georgia

The Southern Historical Society Papers, vol. 17 (1889) lists the casualties of the 12th at Gettysburg which includes mention of Corporal James N. Robertson (note difference in spelling of middle initial) of Company D as having been severely wounded. Incidentally, a lengthy obituary of the company's captain, William D. Ievey, appears in Confederate Veteran magazine, vol. 27 (1919), p. 186. Ievey was captured at Spotsylvania and became one of the "Immortal 600." Ievey served as a court judge in Beaumont, Texas after the war and he died in Los Angeles on 24 November 1918, age 80. Ievey's fighting spirit never diminished - he volunteered to serve in World War I, and fittingly enough died at the conclusion of that war.
