Civilian War Pensions

My Great-great grandfather was Robert Lee Parris was a member of Co G, 39th Georgia Infantry. His enlistment was 8/5/1863 and he died of battle wounds 1/24/1864 at Kingston Field Hospital. He had seven children and did not enlist until the Northern invasion was imminent. Family legend says that he was wounded near his home in Elijay, Georga and taken by other soldiers to Kingston Hospital where he died. He had a 15 year old daughter, Theresa Jemima Parris who, according to family legend, administered to the wounded on the battlefield and recieved some kind of commendation and some sort of government pension. Could this have happened and are there records of civilian govt pensions?
