Re: Savannah Hospital - union soldiers

Tim & Allen: I found a battle history of the 29th at Ancestry.com "American Civil War Regiments". From March 1862 through April 1865 they fought in VA, GA, and the Carolinas, but not in TN. Starting Dec 10, 1865 they were engaged at Savannah, GA against Johnston's Confederate troops. The Ancestry.com soldiers file lists Blake as dying of disease on Dec 31, 1865 at the Savannah hospital. The Nov 14 death is puzzling, and if he is buried at Nashville, I agree with Tim that his remains were shipped there, but not to his home in Ohio, for whatever reason. Your reference on p. 397 "or removed to their homes by their friends" is a possibility. In either case, he doesn't seem to be at rest in Savannah. If in future months, I find an undocumented grave for him in my ocassional cemetery visits in S.E. Ohio, I'll let you know to complete this story. Thanks for both of yours' interest and help.

Regards,

Willard
