Thanks Alan, I will start looking for newspapers. This incident is probably not that important as a historical item. But having lived in the area for most of my life, and knowing the route that Gen. McCook took after escaping from Brown's Mill, it is interesting to me. I can trace his exact path (Lt. Carley was in the column that McCook led) to the river, crossing the river, now I lose track of the path for a few miles, then we know he went thru Houston, to Glenn and then towards Rock Mills where he turned to get to Wedowee. I am also trying to find the location of William's ferry which another column from the Brown's Mill battle took trying to cross the river and get back to Sherman's lines. But that is another project.
Thanks again for all the help! Tom
