George,

Thank you for detailed research. It appears that the Thomas J. Cash from Fulton County did not serve in the 19th Georgia Infantry, but joined the 56th Georgia on May 5, 1862 after he recovered from his illness or disease. Cobb's Legion went to Virginia in the summer of 1861 and T.J. Cash received a disabilty discharge from the unit at Camp Marion near Yorktown, Virginia on January 26, 1862. There was a measles and mumps outbreak in the camp at that time and that may have been the reason.

I think there must have been two other men that went by T.J. Cash in the 19th Georgia. One must have been the older Thomas Cash you mentioned, while another soldier by the name of Tinas J. Cash was also present. He too went by T.J. Cash and is listed in the NPS Civil War Soldiers and Sailors System.

Thanks again for all your help.

George
