My gggrandfather of A company 56th Georgia Infantry was left in the hospital at Tazwell Tennessee in October 1862 after the return from the Kentucky campaign. He did not make it to the surrender at Vicksburg the next record I have is his capture was at Missionary Ridge with his own regiment 56th Georgia. My question is would he have been assigned another regiment in the time his regiment was at Vicksburg? I assume there was no travel in and out of Vicksburg during the seige? Could he have been in the battle of Murphresboro or Chickamaga?
