Carroll County Georgia Company I - 19th Regiment

Hewitt, James Madison- private June 22, 1861. Wounded and
captured at Sharpsburg, Md. September 17, 1862. Paroled
at Fort McHenry, Md. and sent to Fortress Monroe, Va. for
exchange, October 13,1862. Exchanged at Aiken's Landing,
Va. November 10,1862. No later record. Pension records
show he was wounded in both legs below knees, at Ocean
Pond, Fla. February 19 and 20, 1864. Unfit for further
duty. (Born in Georgia in 1848.)
