Re: Color Sgt.Fuller (Phillip's Legion)

John,
Good stuff!
I knew about Fuller but not the others. Did you notice that
D. H. Stidham (just under Mathews' name on roster) was also a
Color Guard? See the ditto marks for him.
I also noticed that several men, not noted as Color Guards, were
paid the exact same amount as others who were indeed noted as
Color Corporals.
Fuller apparently sent what was left of the flagstaff at Fredericksburg home. See Atlanta Constitution of Oct. 6, 1885
(page 3, Col. 3)
A rather long obit. for Fuller appears in the Athens Southern Banner
of June 10, 1863.

After over twenty years of researching Confederate Colorbearers and
Color Guards; one would think that I could with some confidence say
that "I've nearly completed the project". This is far from the truth;
"scratching the surface" would be more factual. The project is just
way too vast for one man to cover.
I ask anyone reading this who comes to find some note or reference
to one of these men, to keep me in mine, and not think that "I must
surely have that nugget already".
