Re: Union dead buried at Newnan

Tom and Alan, thank you for the comments. I knew the Union soldiers (I hate the new political correctness that now even requires us to avoid the idea that these men fought to keep this country united and strong) had made an effort to gather up the remains of their soldiers, I was hoping there was specific information that burial parties around around Newnan had moved them to a specific cemetery. I had suspected Marietta and hoped for some confirmation from local people most informed.

Tom, your story sounds wonderful and just the sort of thing that makes for wonderful new historical articles. You should write something up about this and submit it to one of the good War magazines. Too many of these local stories got lost and not enough is written about them. New material like this is refreshing interesting reading. Thanks so much for sharing them, and also for the proof that Union soldiers were often treated with kindness and sympathy in the South, and that not all citizens of the South treated them as hated enemies, whether out of Christian principles, simple humanity and decency, or even quiet patriotic support for the Union itself. In many places in the South, Union POWs were treated well by some private civilians who discretely gave them what precious food they could spare, and supported their cause. It happened alot more than we have been told.

I am wondering why "Federal" is suddenly more politically correct?
