Hugh Brown, Private, Company E (Camden Mounted Rifles), Cavalry Command south of the Altamaha River, * enlisted July 4, 1862 at Dark Entry/Waynesville by Captain Brown for the duration of the war, substitute for A. M. Peeples, absent, sick in Florida, August 1, 1863, detailed as a Nurse in hospital the end of the year, present on April 30, 1864 muster roll, recorded on June 30, 1864 as "Present, On Picket," no further records

Stationed at Waynesville, Georgia, May 21, 1862.
May 21.— This company was reorganized as a cavalry corps.
Stationed at Dark Entry, Georgia, May 21-June 30, 1862.
[Note, the location of where they were stationed is at the end date of the recording period]
This company was organized on May 21 as a cavalry corps
by order of Brigadier-General [Alexander Robert] Lawton, when
all not subject to the conscription act were discharged.
By order of Major D. L. Clinch, this company left
Waynesville this day, and is now on the march to Lakeport at
Dark Entry, near Saint Mary's, Georgia.

Stationed at Dark Entry, Georgia, July-August 1862.

Stationed at Dark Entry, September-October 1862.
The company has been in no engagement since last muster.
No change of station. Nothing of interest to record.

Stationed at Dark Entry (near) Saint Mary's, Georgia, November-
December 1862.
November 9.— The Abolitionists landed in the town of Saint
Mary's, Georgia, from two gunboats and were fired upon by this
company. One of the enemy was killed and one or more
wounded. They retreated to their boats and forthwith commenced
shelling the town, burning a large portion of the place. No casu-
alty on our side. This company has not changed stations since
last muster.
