Re: 1862: Ga Volunteer or Conscript?

Thanks, I tended to think that was the case after I read up some on the conscription issue. My wife's ancestor was part of a regiment made up of the same county (Catawba, NC) like Henry's 34th GA was from Chattooga.

It appears that NC and GA followed similar paths and philosophies on the conscription controversy.

Tracking down her side opens another theater to me as well as he was in the Army of Northern Virginia and was at Gettysburg, captured at Spotsylvania and sent (eventually) to Elmira. He was fortunate enough to survive its brutal conditions and return home to raise a family.

Merry Christmas and thanks again,
Scott
