Re: 3rd Georgia,22nd Georgia Infantry

Tom Elmore,

Tom I apologize for not getting back with you before now, but I do think i can help with your 15th Chaplain. It had to be James M. Stokes, Appointed Chaplain 3rd Georgia Regiment 3 July 1863. I have copies of his military records indicating.

1. Captured Gettysburg July 5th 1863
2. Admitted U.S.A. General Hospital Baltimore, Md. 28 July 1863.
3. Appears as prisoner of war Fort Monroe VA. July 29. 1863.
4. Received August 10, 1863 Fort Mc Henry, Md.
5. Turned over to Major Mulford October 4, 1863.
6. On Leave October 5, 1863.
7. Captured May 12, 1864 Spottsylvania, and sent to Point Lookout Md.
8. Roll of Prisoner of War, April 26, 1865, at Bennett House, near Durham's Station N.C.

I also have a copy of his wife Caroline Louisa Stokes application for pension in which in her own handwriting she states he was incarcerated in Fort Mc Henry where he contracted Consumption from which he died in 1875 in Suwannee County Florida

Please let me know if I can be of any further assistance, or if you have any information that I may be interested in. You may also contact me by email @ stokesce99@gmail.com

Thanks,
Charles E. Stokes
