There is only one card in each of their files which show they enrolled but apparently never mustered in.

John D. & John R Carpenter, Privates, Captain Saxon's** Company, Georgia Mounted Infantry,* joined for duty and enrolled August 4, 1863, at Manasses by Capt. Saxon for 6 months, neither had been mustered-in as shown on this muster-in roll

Note: They do not appear on the undated muster roll held at Cassville, Georgia, which covers the period Sept. 5, 1863 to February 4, 1864

* This company subsequently became Company D, 9th Battalion Cavalry, Georgia State Guards, which was also known as 10th Battalion Cavalry, Georgia State Guards***

** Organized for local defence, to serve in all that portion of Georgia west of the Chattahoochee River, as Mounted Infantry

*** Formerly Capt. Saxon's Company, Georgia Mounted Infantry
