You misunderstood my post.
An earlier response called this man a "home guard." As explained in my post, Reserves and home guards were different. After describing various military duties required of a Confederate reserve, I wrote, "None of that would have been true of a home guard, who could sleep in his own bed and enjoy home cooking &c, and pretty much live as he pleased."
Reserves had to leave home to serve, while home guards did not.
