The brigade also included the 2nd Alabama Cavalry, the 9th and 11th Mississippi Cavalry and the 12th Mississippi Cavalry Battalion. In late January 1864 the brigade was ordered south to reinforce Confederate cavalry near Jackson MS. Ferguson's men were then involved in the Meridian Campaign, which took them east beyond Meridian and then back to Jackson during February.

In March 1864 the brigade was sent to Madison Stn MS for rest and refit. Quite possibly the recruit you mentioned joined at this time. It would've been difficult to find it during the previous month.

At different times in April 1864 the brigade camped near Tuscaloosa, Elyton and Montevallo in central Alabama. On May 13, 1864, elements of the brigade began to arrive in Rome GA. At that time Ferguson's command numbered 152 officers and 1,579 men present for duty. This does not count dismounted men under Lt. Rufus Jones sent to Selma. A certain number of dismounted men were always absent from the command at remount camps in Mississippi or Alabama.

In Sept 1862 company officers were --
Capt Elijah J Rice, age 24,
1st Lt D J Lacy, age 26
2nd Lt G W Gravlee, age 18
2nd Lt Charles V Phillips, age 21

Capt Elijah James Rice, Apr 22, 1838 - Apr 7, 1923; buried in Oakland Cemetery, Dallas TX.

Ferguson's men represented the last organized Confederate force to leave Atlanta on Sept 3, 1864. When Sherman began his campaign in mid-November 1864, the brigade numbered 547 present for duty.

Without knowing the soldier's name, I cannot guess about other particulars.
