James Ware of Catoosa County,Georgia

I am searching for what happened to my great grandfather, James Ware, during the Civil War. He was born November 29, 1822 in North Carolina but was living in Catoosa County, Georgia during the War. The family story goes that he was wounded and died of pneumonia fever. He died on January 23, 1864. The only record I can find of him is a handwritten Muster Roll of Catoosa County, Georgia dated March 4, 1862. He was 39 years of age. My family received his bones from the Army in 1867 and he was reburied in Catoosa County, Georgia. There was a lot of action in the area he lived in including the Battle of Ringgold, Chickamauga and the Battle of Lookout Mountain but he could have been shipped in another area. Any help would be appreciated.
