If he was confederate and from catoosa and fought at chickamauga then he was in 1st Georgia confederate. Confederate means that companies were from other states besides Georgia. I think records of this unit are on the national parks service civil war soldiers database. I don't know of any federal companies from catoosa georgia. Maybe he joined a Tennessee unit/ There were Federal units from Hamilton County, Tennessee.
