Thanks George, That makes a little more sense. I'm having a hard time figuring this out. His grave stone has his birth date as Mar 1 1848. That makes him 16 years old in 1864. I know that by 1864 the army would take young men at 17 and as old as 50, as they were desperate. Maybe he was big for his age and lied.
