Thanks for the information....it appears that Culpeper's men had an officer sign a list of names and the individual men were then considered paroled. I think the general thought is that each guy stood in line and signed an individual parole. The confusing thing to me is that some of Culpeper's men held prisoner at Ship Island were paroled at meridian on May 10 while others were not paroled until May 20 at Augusta. I suspect the ones paroled at Augusta may have simply disembarked the cattle boats that brought them from Ship Island and headed for home and did not wait to sign their names on the first parole at Meridian.
