The Georgia in the Civil War Message Board

Re: 6th Georgia Cavalry Association

Mr. Bradley,

The Oct. 1, 1863 issue of the "Rome Tri-Weekly Courier," lists' 42 casualties for the 6th Georgia, between Sept. 12th and Sept. 21st, 1863. It names 9 KIA, and 33 WIA.

In various service and pension records I have seen mention of other 6th Georgia casualties at Chickamauga. Unfortunatly I made no note of them.

I suspect the 10th Confederate Cavalry contributed a high proportiion of the casualties in Davidson's Brigade. The 10th was ambushed by union infantry and routed in panic.

I look forward to meeting you and sharing info at the reunion. If you don't attend, you can contact me off site at coferj@bellsouth.net, If I can be of any heip don't hesitate to ask.

A side note, I am in possession of Dr. J.W. Farill's walking cane. Dr. Farill was Dr. Rudicil's colleague,
Farill was the assistant surgeon of the 6th Ga. Dr. Farill willed the cane to the last living member of the Regiment. It appears my great grandfather had the distinction of being the last of the boys of the 6th.

Could not get the darn spellcheck to work so forgive any typo's.

Regards. R. Cofer
