Thank you both for replying. I have searched for an obituary but to no avail. I have no clue as to which unit he would've served with. Both the 1910 census and family tradition indicate he was in the Confederate army. The family also has an 1864 Springfield, which he carried with him. He was living in North Carolina according to the 1860 census but I can find no record of him in North Carolina during the war. I thought it could be possible that he moved to Georgia prior to hostilities to live with his two brothers, William Alexander Overby and Marcus Overby, both of whom lived in Rome, Georgia.
