Re: 39th GA Skirmishers at Champion Hill

Cumming sent out a big part of the 39th GA. as skirmishers to the east of the Crossroads on the Middle road...then he took the rest of the 39th Ga, the 34th GA, and the 36th GA, north up the Jackson road to shore up Lee's line of Alabamians on Champion Hill itself. Those sent out as skirmishers were then not in contact with the others sent to the north.

My question is when did those sent out as skirmishers (39th GA) get pushed back in the battle, as I cannot find a specific reference about those skirmishers. I know about the routing of the Georgia boys on Champion Hill, not much is said of the skirmishers after they were sent out.

I don't have access to Bearss's book, just Smith's book. Does Bearss say anything specific about Col McConnel's 39th GA skirmishers?
