Re: Medical Officers GA brigade of ANV

In the files of the 6th Cavalry, Thomas Amiss is listed as a 3rd Corporal, Company B, 6th Virginia Cavalry, having enlisted April 1, 1862 "At Camp" for a period of three years, the May/June 1862 muster notes "Absent - On detached service in Medical Dept. in Richmond."

These dates appear corrupted as under the Last Paid section we find he was paid by Capt. Carter, on May 1, 1861 with note: Except for Nov. & Dec. 1861"

From the CSRs of the 31st Georgia

Thomas B. Amiss, Assistant Surgeon, 31st Georgia Regiment is noted in their Monthly Report at Camp near Port Royal, Va., January 31, 1863 as being absent sick for 31 days, December 1862 absent with leave for 10 days, with Lawton's Brigade during the month of February 1863, paid $560 for the period July 31, 1862 to February 28, 1863, a period of 7 months pay pr. mo. $80, n.d.

W. B. Amiss card, Ass't Surgeon/Surgeon, refers to that of W. H. Amiss

Is recorded in Gordon's Brigade for the month of April 1863, recorded as being with the regiment "On the Rapidan in a Quarterly Report dated April 6, 1864, recorded as Ass't. Surgeon on the regiment's monthly report of November 1862, on leave 11 days December 1862, recorded as Surgeon month of January 1863, date of Regimental appointment July 25, 1862, present on the March/April 1864 muster, paid through August 1, 1864 [his file contains 38 cards including a number of vouchers for pay, forage, clothing, etc.]
