Thank you so much for your quick response. The only real info I have on "One Arm Jim" is of his pre war & post war years. I was at the cemetery today asking him questions, but, I guess he wants me to dig for it. To the best of my knowledge, his father was Henry J. Helton, his mother was Eliza (Lizzie) Teal. I believe that he had a brother named Membrance and a sister named Eudica (Dicey) who married William "Ransom" Kirkland. They lived in Henry County Alabama, but were origionally from South? Carolina. I have not been able to trace them back any further. Membrance Indian name was Tusteeneeckee. Both of the brothers had farms in Covington Co.,Al in 1860.
This whole story has been just a surprise because I found out about it accidentally. I was looking up some info on my husbands Gx5 Grandfather-George Stiggens, when I found my moms family on the Creek rolls. My mom and her siblings say they did not know anything about this, BUT, her cousin, aunts and uncles had registered in the 50's.
James W. married Dicey Ann Shelby. Besides his father being named Henry, Jim also had a brother and a son named Henry ( bout like Reuben to Ards & Horace to the Gosses). It's enough to make a person dizzy, but I want to learn more about Jim's Civil War record. That's where I get stuck. At least you've given me some other places to check out. I also do not know the exact person that put them on the Creek Rolls. Henry J. and Membrance are listed as the ancestor, but how do I find their ancestor? Thanks so very much-Pam
