Re: Nelson Grubb of the 3rd Cherokee Home Guard

According to Grubb family historians, the grandfather was Dr. Alan Burd Grubb of McMinn, Tenn. who was a surgeon for Col. Morgan's Cherokee Regiment in the War of 1812. He is reported to have married into an Indian family. His son Nelson Byers Grubb is rumored to have married Nannie Rogers who was at least part Cherokee. So, son Nelson of the 3rd IHG (?) should be a good portion Cherokee. I am trying to find the details (who, how, when and where)on this family. The key may be to locate Nelson Byers Grubb. He was no longer in McMinn, Tenn. in 1839. May have disappeared in The Trail of Tears.

My g-grandfather Charles Jackson Grubb was in Harrell's Battalion of Cabell's Brigade and may have fought against Nelson at Honey Springs. The only thing I can find on Charles Jackson are his pension papers. I have been looking for 10 years.

I saw the same pension material on Ancestry.com. My thoughs were that Sarah Wofford is very likely Nelson's wife. However, I don't know at this point. Tahlequah Cem. has many Woffords. There is a Sarah there, but Wofford may be the married name.
