Re: Middle Boggy Battle

In one of the reports there is a reference to the Federal "clean up" (my words) covering a swath 60 miles wide. I presumed this was centered on the Texas Road, but it still allows the western edge of the line to be 30 miles west of Atoka. When my former supervisor and I were working on the survey for the American Battlefield Protection Program, we were convinced that the event took place in what is now Coal County and were on a site where an obvious historic road crossed one of the Boggy Creeks. Representatives of the NPS (from Santa Fe) followed up our report but made an unannounced visit to the state and came up with their own conclusions, and their report is what the ABPP location is based upon.

I'm still not convinced the action took place in Atoka County, and one of my professors at East Central State was convinced that the battle took place in Pontotoc County.
