Frazier McLish's militia North of Red River
In Response To: Re: Frazier McLish ()

Mike Thompson,

Thank you for the hint on how to find the Frazier McLish militia listing. Truth is, I never thought of looking there. This may sound like a poor excuse, but I've worked night and day for years trying to find each soldier mentioned in my book in a second source since most of the handwriting was so poor, and yes, initials only, in lieu of Christian names, most of the time.
.
My positive attitude led me to believe that his militia listing would pop up; but now the CMSRs are on the Internet, I'll plow through with WHO WAS WHO AMONG THE SOUTHERN INDIANS and Rex's books at my side. By the way, I have a listing of the Seminole Regt, that I found in the Okla Hist Soc, in my book.
.
I trust you read my web page http://www.bourlandcivilwar.com/FrazierMcLishMilitia.htm that features an article "Montfort Johnson," from O’Beirne's "Leaders and Leading Men of Indian Territories," [1891] vIp284).

With the fall of Fort Arbuckle to the Confederates, Montford Johnson lost his mail route. According to one source, Montford then served a time with Frazier McLish’s militia and for three or four months rode express between the headquarters of the Chickasaw Battalion and the Texas troops stationed at the mouth of Mud Creek where it joined Red River [now Love Co OK]. With Michael [Campbell] now spending most of his time at Fort Arbuckle or on the march, Montford, upon his release [from the militia] took over the management of Michael’s stock and property.

I appreciate your reading my referenced web page. Sometimes I feel it was a waste of time to prepare those web pages.
